HI BSD folks!

I happen to have a IBM T20 labtop with 256 MB of ram, which have been
assigned to me as my pc at my job.

Now, as I got the T20 from our IT department, a copy of win2000 was
installed on it, and sadly filled out the entire disk (12GB) as ONE
partition.
In the ROOT of the NTFS partition, which is c:\ on a win2000, I notized
2 files. The 384 MB swap file and the 256 MB mem.dump file - Can't
remember their names (I can get them if you want?).
So I have 256 MB of ram and a memoryDump file of 256 MB.

After having resized it (resizing was the only way IT still would
support it), to 9.5GB it still worked fine.
But after a FreeBSD 4.1.1 installation, it would not boot - like you
described.
When it boots, it searches the partition table on the disk during the
boot sequence. It seems that the following code is then run:
10: if(partitionID == 165) {
20: sleep(10);
30: goto 10;
40: }

I then took the 2,5" disk and put it in my own pc (with a converter),
and remove the bootloader - It would not boot.
I then did all cind of things with a win2000 rescue disk and a win2000
installation cd, trying to recover the boot sequence.
But when I removed the UFS (165) partition, the win2k booted without
problems.

I have one one question to ask: WHY ?

Regards
Anders
